When you want to mount Apple's DiskCopy image file onto your desktop, you may use MountImage control panel, written by Steve Christensen. This software is very useful and hel us from handreds of floppy disks. I, however, sometimes feel irritated by the interface of MountImage, because MountImage is control panel. It means I cannot use 'Drag & Drop' feature, important system 7 enhancement.
Now Mt.Image is here. it is a small utility, that can make your life with image file more easily. Mt.Image can mount image file using 'Drag & Drop', it can also open multiple image file at once. No more effort with 'MountImage' control panel.
Mt.Image is an application, so it never cause conflicts between other software.
Requirements
=============
Mt.Image can run on any Macintosh with System 6.0.7 or later. User of system prior to 6.0.7 may use Mt.Image, but I have not tested so use with carefull. Of cource you cannot use Drag & Drop feature when using system prior to 7.
Mt.Image uses the driver of 'MountImage', so you must put 'MountImage' in your Syste, Folder or Control Panels folder.
Installation
===========
If you don't have MountImage control panel, get it from your friends, BBS etc. Put the file MountImage into your System Folder (or Control Panels folder inside System Folder). Then restart your Macintosh.
You can place the file Mt.Image any where you want because it is application.
How to use it
============
•Using Drag & Drop
Select image files you want to mount and drag them onto icon of Mt.Image. When the icon inverts, release mouse button to drop them into Mt.Image. Then Mt.Image is wake up, mount image files and automatically quit. You can see icon of disks on your desktop.
•Launch Application normally
Expanded file open dialog will be shown. Select the file you want to mount as usual. Then push 'Open' button to mount single file, or 'Open All' button to mount all files in the folder.
Mt.Image uses MountImage control panel so it has same limitation that MountImage has. For instance, it cannot mount over four image files if you use MountImage 1.1, nor over eight files if you use 1.2.
TIPS and some useful information
===============================
• When you check the option "Change Creator to Mt.Image", Mt.Image change the creator of the image file from DiskCopy to Mt.Image. Thus you can mount image files by just double-clicking the file.
• If you use MountImage 1.2, you can allow changes to the mounted disk by checking the option "Allow Changes to the Disk Image". You can flip the state of this option by pressing Command-key when you drag&drop the file into Mt.Image.
• Don't install software into same harddisk where original image file resides in. This may cause system crash.
• I don't know it is correct, but some people says that MountImage 1.2 has some serious probrem and sometimes it cause system crash. I also have experienced that the file copied from mounted image file is not same as the one copied from floppy disk. Use MountImage in your own risk.
• If you change the creator of image file to Mt.Image, the file cannot be opend by DiskCopy application and MountImage control panel because they investigate not only filetype but also creator of the file. You can break off this probrem with patching them as follows:
DiskCopy:
'CODE' ID=1
find "7203B10956C9FFFC", then replace to "7203B1091200B001"
MountImage:
'cdev' ID=-4064
find "6443707900246644", then replace to "6443707900244e71"
